Seidio is announcing its best selling 2 in 1 headset for Treo 600 with an added feature: retractable cable. This new feature will provide you with the ease and convenience you have been missing.
With one switch, you can go from talking to listening to MP3 music without changing to another headset.
With one pull, you can retract the cable back into the housing and keep the cable neatly wrapped and untangled.
This is the only headset you ever need for your Treo 600.

dang you Seidio - as soon as I'm happy with one product, you come out with something new to make me want the new one.
I bought the stereo headset, and then out came the 2in1.
I got the 2in1, and now out comes the retractable one.
I must be strong...I must.....hold...out. aaaaiiiiieeeeeeeee

What I want to know is can I run with these? I currently use the standard 2in1 and the cord is a bit long. I like the idea of a retractable cord but will an accidental pull while your arms are moving be more of a pain than the long cord. Too bad they didn't add a cord lock switch on the housing.
I'll most likely get one in a bit but I'm hoping "the pull to retract" is not gonna be too sensitive.

well I've tried running with the 2in1, and it's really just too heavy a total unit for me - pulling on the ear buds and such. I'd think that adding the retractor would make things even worse....

Hi,
We also offer 2 in 1 backphone which is ideal for running .

yep, I've thought about the backphone....but how many headsets can/should one person own? There has to be an end to the madness somehow...make it stop!!!
(I say this while at the same I go to the Seidio website every day and longingly look at the retractor ones, the backphone - so many to choose from. Dang it)

nrosser, I think if I modify a Tune Belt slightly ( straps on arm http://www.tunebelt.com/ab2 ), that I'd be able to stick the retractable casing right to the outside with some velcro. This would make the weight not noticeable.
seidioseidio, I'm not interested in the backphone simply because on long runs those kind of headphones can get pretty soaked. :-) However, adding the Ear Wraps I just noticed on your site would be a nice touch to prevent the buds from popping out.

back and forth we go - manielse, I actually gave those ear wraps a try (see what I mean - i want it all), and I sent them back for full credit. They had a number of problems, as I saw it:
1. When you put the 2in1 earbuds, which are already pretty big, inside another plastic bud thing, that total size just became wwaayyy too big to fit in anyone's ears, unless you're Spock or something.
2. The plastic around-behind-the-ear part just wasn't designed at a correct angle or something - it's like it made the speaker pod sit at a funky angle, and the whole thing just didn't fit well in my ear, and fell out with no effort.
So - good try, but maybe some design changes and they'll be there.

Thanks for saving me a few bucks nrosser! I figured an addon clip would not fit perfectly and you just verified that. I would consider built in ear wraps if the ever decided to splice those on as a seperate model.
It's too bad that the Seidio 2 in 1 Headset Adaptor, RETRACTABLE model ( http://www.seidioonline.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=HME2RSVOT%2DSL ) is just that, retractable. It would be nice to use your favorite 3.5mm headphones especially with the with the 2 in 1 feature but why would I want this to be retractable? What I mean is the fact that you're already gonna have the cord of your headphones that you plug into the adapter, why would I need another long cord? I'd want maybe 2 inches of cord between the 2.5mm plug and the control unit.

Hi Nrosser,
When you are using our earwrap, you will need to put the earbud into the earwrap. But when you using it, only the tip on the earwrap should be in your ear. It is not designed to put the earbud with the ear wrap into your ear. And that's the purpose of using the around the ear design to hold the earbud.
The plastic around the ear design is suitable for most user. Since everybody will have a different ear shape. It cannot 100% fit all people. Again, the design of the earwrap is not putting the earbud with the ear wrap into your ear. You may want to try the ear wrap again and see how they fit you.
If you have any question, please feel free to let us know. Seidio is providing a wide variety of 2-in-1 hands free solutions to fit different needs. This is the reason that we have 3 major different models for the 2-in-1 headsets.

Hi Manielse,
The Seidio 2-in-1 Headset adapter has combined the "2-in-1 Technology" and a "2.5mm to 3.5mm adapter" together. This headset adapter is for you to use the 2-in-1 feature with your favorite headphones with 3.5mm connector. For the retractable feature, we understand that some customers will put the Treo 600 in their pocket, so they need a longer cable between the control box and the connector. And for some customers, they will have the treo 600 on their belt, which may only need 2 inches. Also, since the microphone is built-in to the control box, you may need to extend the cord and pull the microphone closer to you to talk.
If you have any question about our 2-in-1 headsets, please feel free to let us know.

thanks, Seidio, for responding (I had already sent the ear wraps back for full credit, so it's a moot point, really, but I'll ask since I'm curious). So you say 'only the tip on the earwrap should be in the ear' - I'm guessing you mean the tiny pointed tip of the thing:
http://www.seidioonline.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=HJBK
and I have to say that I think that's a bad design intent. As you guys know, just about every other ear bud thing out there (including your own) depends in having the big round part of the ear bud inserted into the ear canal to hold the thing in there (along with gravity). So - if your intent is to have the fat ear bud part just kind of hanging outside the ear canal, loose, with the behind the ear wrap holding the whole thing on the ear - well, that just doesn't sound very secure or logical to me. I also don't think that unless the bud itself is in the canal, that the sound would be coming through to the ear.
But - none of this matters to me, since I don't have mine anymore. And, admittedly, I didn't try the method you state, so I can't say for sure one way or the other. But thanks for posting your info.

nrosser, I guess we could just buy the retractable 2.5mm to 3.5mm adapter and use any pair of earwraps we like.
After reading wrxm33's comments, being able to pull the microphone closer is kind of nice so it's a best of both worlds.

nrosser - I have to agree with you on the ear wraps, though I didn't even want to waste the time or energy attempting to get a refund. I used them for a day then tossed them into my desk drawer where they have stayed ever since... The wraps just did not hold securely enough to my ear for my liking, and the "fat ear bud part" was simply annoying and uncomfortable. I have been happy with every other product I got from seidio so far, though, and they even replaced a 2-in-1 that was damaged quickly & with no problems.
I have the retractable sitting in my cart right now and am about to purchase it...

Hi Nrosser,
We completely understand that most earbuds and ear wrap cannot fit all users, which is just like shoes have different sizes, clothes have different sizes too. If there is a standard on the size of the ear, we would be more than happy to design the earbuds and ear wraps in different sizes to fit all customers. So far, we tried our best to make one to fit almost all ear shape.
For the earwrap, the around the ear design will support most of the weight of the earbuds, but for the tip it will also find a support near around the ear canel and the Ear bud will be just touching the outside of the ear and having a slight support from the ear.
Nrosser, thank you very much for your comments and questions on the earbuds and ear wraps. We will consider this as a product improvement idea. Possibily some day we will have the ear buds and ear wraps in "Small, Medium and Large" size.
thanks again.

Assuming the retractable has good sound quality and is the same as the non-retractable (except with the added retractability), I would like to sell my non-retractable (got it as a gift only a couple weeks ago) if anyone is interested.

Has anyone tried the back phones? I'm a runner, too, and was going to get the earbuds with earwraps, but I have microscopic ears and have never found ear buds to be very comfortable. The added bulk of the ear wrap does not sound promising--I had thought it would be earwraps *instead* of the plain earbuds, but that does not seem to be the case. I'm worried about the sweatiness of the back phones, though... they absolutely would get soaked every time.

I received my retractable head set and I'm a little angry.
Seidio, what's with the soccer ball on the retractor? I'm not in 7th grade. I'm a business professional who doesn't wish to carry something with a soccer ball on it into a meeting or have a client look down at my shirt to see a soccer ball clipped to it. This wasn't shown in any of the images on your web site or any of the images you posted at Treo Central.
Do all the new retractable headsets have the soccer ball on them? Why wouldn't you show this in the actual product images displayed on your web site? Very poor business practices if you ask me. You may loose a good customer in me.

I actually saw the soccer ball thing here:

But maybe you bought the ones behind the neck, that are the ones I would like to get, so would you please post a mini-review about them including info about if the soccer ball is somehow removable. I thought it was a sticker or maybe you can take it away with a blade.
But it seem they have good products but mess things up from time to time  .

The soccer ball doesn't impress me either. But far more problematic to me is the poor quality of the audio. I have worked with these headphones a bit and still need to work on them some more, but right now I am extremely dissastisfied. The bass is horrible and the overall volume level is poor without experiencing some considerable distortion. Plus they are fairly heavy and I always feel that they are going to fall out of my ears.
At this point, I plan to return the product. It's just that bad.

Hi Steve,
Sorry to hear you have some problem with our 2 in 1 headset. Our 2 in 1 headset in general delivers very good audio. The unit you have is a very brief deviaition from its standard performance. Seidio stands behind the products we sold. Please contact our return department as soon as possible RMA@seidio.com.
If you think 2 in 1 retractable is too heavy. Please consider Seidio 2 in 1 headset without retractable. It is also available.

So do you have any left without the soccer ball (the way it was advertised when I purchased it) so I could exchange mine?
Chiming in here; the retractableness of the wires leaves something to be desired with the wire(s) not retracting tightly back into the unit. Not impressed with it at all, although a good effort to try and innovate shortcomings of your usual off-the-shelf headphone set.
I am returning mine.

I think what they're saying is that there never was any version without the soccer ball. The original pictures were just inadvertantly shot with tje soccer ball facing down towards the table.

I have been watching this thread with interest from the sidelines while my Seidio retractable 2 in 1 was on order and had gotten a little worried about the product. I received mine today and wanted to provide some quick feedback.
1. I agree that the soccer ball thing is a little weird but it's literally just a sticker that covers up a tiny screw. I took the sticker off and it looks fine.
2. On my set, the retractable cord works just as advertised - retracts nicely (although does add another item that's hanging off your already crowded neck)
3. Sound quality appears to be ok, at least for phone calls (nice to have a two earpieces) and Shoutcast streams - nothing special but works just fine.
4. The volume adjuster on the headset microphone unit is a nice touch.
Overall, I'm giving the headset a thumbs up.

I had gotten the 2-1 earbud headset in June but returned it. I had been used to listening to MP3's with Sony headsets that cover the whole ear through a Radioshack stereo converter and could not adjust to the reduced bass response of the earbuds. In fairness, the 2-1 earbuds had about the same quality bass of any other earbud set. I was just hoping against logic it would be closer to a full size headset because I hate carrying those big things around because it is so inconvenient at times. If you are fine listening to any other earbud brand then you would probably be fine with those in the 2-1.
So I returned it and got credited for the 2-1 retractable converter. I figured I'd get the converter to primarily use a large headset but it would still give me the flexibility to use earbuds instead when needed. I dislike the soccer ball as well and also immediately thought that it looks unprofessional when I saw it. But I didn't get hung up on it and am otherwise happy with the unit. I plugged my Sony headset into the Seidio unit, listened to part of a song, and then swapped the headset back to the Radioshack converter and listened again to compare. After about 15 mins of doing this with several songs, I gave up in trying to recognize any discernible difference in sound quality. So if you are having bass problems, I doubt it would be the converter. You might want to try a different headset.
Thank you to Seidio for making the exchange so painless. And BTW, I also recommend Seidio's charger kit that includes attachments for charging in both the car and home. It's cheaper and more convenient than buying two sets of cables. And the cable included is also retractable which makes it even more convenient when travelling. Thanks guys - good work on both. But my advice in the future is to dump the soccer ball. I can only wonder what the story behind it was... MP3's + Treo = Soccer?!?

If you don't mind looking like you escaped from the 1970s, just wear a terrycloth sweatband. Make sure it covers your ears so it holds your earbuds in place.

i've just recieved it yesterday and i put some pictures on my website : http://fortinslandv2.free.fr/treo/Seidio/s2in1hr1/ (new address)
i don't see the soccer ball as a problem : i'll fix it as soon as possible (caus i don't like soccer) with an own maid sticker (like the Orange logo on my Treo 600)
I haven't got for a long time so i can't say about audio quality but i'll be very  if it is bad cause 46.10$ ~= 38€ for an headset is very expensive i think (before a got on i maid myself but if was not as beautiful as Seidios one and not as tiny < it cost me 10€ and i was maid with headset from a CD player and the quality was very good !!)
i'll tell you in few days

I have owned the back phone headset. I think these are a wonderful idea. They fit is a bit inflexible. I also found after a couple of months that the volume works variablely in one ear. However, when I received them, I was delighted that I actually had to turn the volume down. This is no longer true.
While I did recommend them to a colleague, I feel a little guilty as the overall flimsy feeling workmanship seems to have a problem that breaks down pretty quickly.
I was at CompUSA and now see a number of back phone like adapters for the PC -- it can't be too long until someone increases the quality of the device for phones. I hope Seidio does.

Seidio is pleased to announce a newly improved version of its best-selling 2 in 1 Retractable Headset for Treo 600.
Due to popular request, the soccer ball logo on previous models has been replaced by our Seidio logo. This provides users with a more professional and simple look.
Now, in addition to the regular clip on the console, there is also an in-line rotating shirt clip. For users who could not utilize the clip on the back of the console, this new clip will allow you to pin the cable to anywhere on your shirt. This brings the microphone closer to you so your voice will be heard more loudly and clearly on the other end.
As always, the retractable headset also has these features:
- Cable retracts quickly and easily into housing
- Variable lengths on the wire
- Hands-free device and also doubles as a set of headphones
- Comes with microphone, one touch button, retractable box and in-line music and phone volume control.
- Switch available on control console to allow you to easily select either "Hands Free mode" or "MP3 mode”
- Clip on back of console
- High performance speakers for best sound quality
- Light weight, comfortable in-the-ear design for discrete listening
- Plugs directly into your Treo 600 headset jack
- 2.5 mm gold plated L-shaped Stereo plug

i can't tell about quality over time but i was  when i put them on my ears for the first time ! now i only use them when i play sport (in streets, for walking, ... i prefer the retractable adaptor with small earbuds from my cd player (my earbuds produce a really better sound than Headset's one) : it is more serious  )
i wont make a full review of the retractble adaptor because it's the same as headphone (updated) but the only difference (which is very important) is that you can put your own earbuds/backphones or whatever you want (maybe a cassette ...) so audio quality depends on you !

I got the Sedio retractable 2 in 1 headset for my birthday this week. I am not impressed with the sound quality from their earbuds.. It sounds hollow and the crappy earbud that came with my treo has better sound quality. Now I have crappy sound quality in stereo.
For $40 I was expecting a lot more. I really wish they would have used a higher quality earbud like the ones on a sony headset.
Plus the new Seidio sticker that replaced the soccer ball lasted about a day. The glue on the back wore off already and was peeling up and falling off after one day of wearing it. Not impressed with the quality at all.

Hi Eddieras,
When there is an incoming call, the P-tunes should be Pause automatically. After the call and switch back to P-Tunes, you should able to resume the song. The song will not be played back automatically after the call. All these software switching are controlled by the MP3 Software.
Seidio's 2-in-1 headset is designed to put 2 circuits together on one handsfree unit. So that you don't need to bring 2 headphones with you on the road.
Thanks

thanks for the info - when the call comes in it knocks me out of p-tunes all together when i answer-- i can go back to p-tunes and start up again, but the call brings me to the dial pad screen. but you say this is an issue with p-tunes, correct?
anyone have any ideas to bring me back to p-tunes after the call?

in p-tunes deluxe there is an option for a "hotkey" - you press a certain button and it pops up a menu on the screen to continue playing - i don't have the headphones yet - i'm ordering them today - but if you go to Menu -> Background Preferences -> Bring up console with button <> define button - and check this box, when you are in another application and you press the "defined button" it will pop up a menu on the screen to pause/unpause, next track, previous, or Open pocket tunes. Make sure you select a button and then check the box. I have mine set to the calendar key. One press (while pocket tunes is in the background) brings up the menu, 2nd press brings up calendar. For example, at end of call, press calendar key (in my case), press play/pause button, and switch button on seidio back to music. Hope this helps.

sledgie- thanks-- i have the hotkey set up - but it doesn't work when a call interupts the music. the hotkey will work, for instance if i'm listening and checking out my calender etc at the same time.. but it doesn't work (bring me back to the console) when interupted by a call.
any ideas?

Hi Seidio,
I got the backphone first and am now switching to the over-the-ear version. I love the idea. But I have to say, at least for the two I tried, the bass quality is bad. I'm keeping it only because I love the idea so much, and rarely turn it all the way up on the low end. But you guys really need to make a better quality ear piece.
BTW, I've noticed a few improvements in the newer, over-the-ear model. The cable fully retracts on the retractable segment, and max volume is definitely higher. So you guys have been paying attention, and I appreciate that.
But the logo is still flimsy as ever.

continuum : i'm not from Seidio but i want to answer you : i think sound quality of backphones is very good, even bass, it's really better than other headsets from seidio. if you want you can try the adaptor so you would be able to connect your own headset and audio quality will depend on you
i think/hope they will increase audio quality in the next update ...
the improvements you are talking about are not only for the over-the-ear, they were introduced with the update of all Seidio headsets (about half-month ago) (as you can see in my reviews which you can read from my website www.fortin.fr.tc)
i don't understand why so much people criticize Seidio for the new logo, i like it so much, it's so much better than the soccer ball and i didn't have any problem with it and i still use Seidio's backphones and adaptor every day ...

Nice to know that the backphones are still standing, in good condition I hope.

alex_mayorga :
i didn't notice anything more yet
but if Seidio would plan an update, i would like them to pay attention at my second "cons" which was : "the "back" has a "hole" to make the wire go through but this hole is on the down side and the plastic can scratche a little bit the ears" (the top of the ear) < i said it wasn't a problem but maybe after many hours (more than 3) using it and moving the head a lot, it could become a problem

Thanks fortin!
How long have you had the backphones? I look forward to order ones maybe in 2 weeks from now. Does it turn the Treo into a "decent" MP3 player?
Thank you for being so responsive, also I would like to know if you have any other Seido products that are worthy? I only want to pay one shiping. Or maybe other headset that does the same?
Thank you so much in advance.

alex_mayorga : i have backphones since august,16 = nearly a month. i use them with pocket tunes to listen music (ogg mp3 wma wav ... mainly ogg for me) and it work very well. however a Sd or mmc card of 32 Mb is not enough (=about 30 minutes of music = 8 songs), i bought a 512 Mb and it's about 9h of music ! so my Treo became a very "decent" mp3 player.
for now i only tried audio products from Seidio and i think another worthy product is the retractable adaptor if you want something more "serious".
i've also tried the Hostler but i don't use it everday because i don't like wearing phone on belt, i prefer to put it in a pocket but this is not because of the hostler ...
I hope i'll get one Seidio's car kit soon, the review will be available on my website (www.fortin.fr.tc) as soon as i'll release it (maybe in one or two weeks)
can anyone comment on the sound quality of the [retractable] ear buds for listening to music ?
I did see this bit from fortin (thx): The sounds is correct, good but not very good : there is a little bit not enough bass.
Looking for more opinions.

To wrxm33 from Sedeio,
I have gone through numerous earbud phonesets, including retractable ones, and what I would really like is to find a nice, leather, zippable pouch that is intended to hold the phoneset when it is not in use.
Bonus if a) it is small, b) stylish, c) has a very small belt loop.
I'd probably pay up to $30 for such a thing ($15 is what I am thinking would be a no brainer price.)

the contest at You-Know-Where is over
My 2in1 no longer maintains a connection with my Handspring Sprint T600. I've had this since Sept 3 ship date and I'm very disappointed. I compared the plug tips for the 2in1, the OEM Handspring headset, and the Handspring headphone adapter and the Seidio is slimmer and the tip is less bulbous (for lack of a better adjective)
I've requested an exchange if they've fixed this problem, otherwise a refund.
Find attached image of plug tips for reference: top left is the 2in1, top right is the OEM headset, and bottom right is the headphone adapter.

I just exchanged the old soccer ball version for the new one and the new one actually doesn't work at all. I'm having a similar problem to puyi, it doesn't keep it's connection to the treo, so it goes in and out of playing through the headphones and through the treo speaker. This is my second faulty pair, and I have requested a refund because I'm sick of dealing with this. I do not recommend this seidio headset, it is a great idea, but there are way too many problems

Can you tell me the length of the cable from the console to the earbuds, in this newest product? I have the original two-in-one, and am interested in the retractable ones, BUT - I'd like for the length of the cable from the console to the earbuds to be shorter than it is in the original product. The pics on your website for the retractable earbud kind of show two different lengths of that cable length - one shorter and one longer. Can you guys just tell me what the exact length is of the retractable earbud version, from the console to the earbuds, if it's different from the original 2-in-1 earbud set - ?
Thanks.

thanks, Fortin - I knew about and have read your review previously. My question for Seidio remains though - what is the length of the earbud cables (from the console to the earbuds themselves) on the currently shipping two in one retractable? There are two pics on the website that seem to show two different lengths. That's why I have the question.
(and I'm hoping the length from the console to the earbuds has been shortened - that's my only beef with my original set of 2in1s, that the console mic is just too far away from the mouth. Yes I know it can be clipped closer, or even held, but then you have that extra wire kinda hanging about, and I don't like that).
So - let me know SeidioSeidio, if that length has been changed recently, or if it's the same as it always was, and/or the same as on the original 2in1s.

I just got my 2-in-1 retractables 2 weeks ago ... measures 14in. from console to the earbuds. I'd agree it would be nicer if it were a few inches shorter... and have the retractable cable section a few inches longer to compensate.

I use my old 2 in 1 on my 650 without problems. I think the new one they are going to come out with will not require you to manually switch between voice and music (like the headset I bought from the TC store, it will automatically know what to do). Like that plug? :-)

Dear Seidio,
We (a couple members in another thread) like the Seidio products. But let me tell you what we want really want.
First of all, we want:
1)Something that looks like the Seimen/Nokia 616 respectively
http://www.mobilefun.co.uk/product/3531.htm
http://www.nokia.com/nokia/0,,65323,00.html
We love the way the Seimen LCD product can be flushed mounted as though it came with the car. The Nokia LCD is great because it looks space age. Please no more cigarette lighter add-on attachments.
2) We love the elegance of the Seidio G2500 cradle/charger. However, we want durable parts that don't break easily from Seidio.
3) We want something that mutes the radio/CD player on incoming/outgoing calls. A control box behind the dashboard and powered by the car -- no cigarette lighter power cords. That's too messy. We want the incoming/outgoing call audio capable of being played back in the car's speaker system.
4) We want hidden omni direction microphones with voice control i.e. dial by number, dial by name, full dupex, and DSP echo suppression.
5) We want it to work with the Treo 650/Bluetooth profiles. Make Bluetooth work with a Treo 650 now. Very few people in the forums are having success getting the 650 and Bluetooth to work HF consistently.
6) Also throw in control at the steering column like the following link. But don't make it cheap looking like this one. Remote control from the steering wheel. (http://www.globalsources.com/gsol/I/Bluetooth-handsfree-manufacturers/p/2000000003844/3000000149681/1000514565.htm)
7) We want a really cool external antenna available to us when the Treo products can support it.
8) We would like the product to be priced between $250.00-400.00

Also, is there going to be a 650 version of the back phone/behind the ears headset? Thanks, James

Sooo. Even though your site specifically says the 650 2 in 1 retractable has a manual switch (for mp3 vs phone) you confirm that the switch is internal and automatic? If so, isn't that a pretty easy clarification to update on your website?
