Hi all,

I'm just having a little fun so don't be mad. The Treo 700 should look like the one below with all the bugs from 650 fixed of course. Most of the buttons including the phone off button can be located on the screen shortcuts.

Nice job. I like the screen.

Please add a dedicated comma button!!!! I hate having to use the Option key combination.

Label backspace "BS" or something. I often hit it instead of Enter.

The 5-way nav on your design is about 3/8" tall by my estimation. Being much smaller than the one on the 650, I'm sure it will be unusable. I have difficulty w/ up and down on the 650.

I too would miss the buttons.

I like the fat one...more cushin for the pushin.....oh wait the phone. Yeah i wise the antenna would go bye bye...however when my phone is in the ivolution case, yeah that antenna sure becomes handy to remove it

one thing i would honestly as well love...would be...say to put the reset whole on the side, or you want in the back but not underneath the battery cover, i liked the treo 600 reset pin better

oh yeah, the phone buttons are a must...thats one of the huge selling points for me to go to treo 650

i already said about the LED position...and well i just thought of another thing...its a phone yes i agree...and the camera is for fun, and i still stand by that view point...but i would love for it to come with some sort of LED flash (like other hardware providers are doing). I had the flash add on for my T610/T616, and well yeah it made everything look lik enight and day :)

I think this one looks the best:

http://www.ultracorinc.com/ebay/Treo700Comparison.jpg

It's the first pic. in this thread. With that screen, it could have a collapsable VG area like the Sony CLIE TH55. It should have wifi (B or G doesn't really matter to me), bluetooth 2.0, built in USB host controller (which would be used through and adapter through the Palm Universal connector it should have), at least 128MB of RAM, PalmOS 6, OLED screen, full duplex speaker phone, etc.. Power button should be on the side or on the top next to the SD slot.

What about the variant on the far right? It's a spin-off of choile's version, and maintains the total length of the Treo, but with the antenna internalized.

Advantage: all the external buttons are maintained, plus a longer screen.

Disadvantage: although the actual length of the phone is the same, the body of the phone itself is pretty long now, and may be more susceptible to breakage, especially if carried in a pocket.

WiFi, EDGE (or whatever is next for GSM or CDMA) with a smooth hand-off between the two, and of course, GPS.

I like the middle one too. Though I would:

+ Have the option of having the T600 keyboard w/subtle backlight or the T650 keyboard, but must keep the T650's menu, home and 4 app buttons.
+ Return the on/off switch to the top.
+ Make the speaker smaller (but just as powerful) to make it flush/even.
+ Have a 2.5mm jack (on the left, like always) for the carkits and a 3.5 mm jack (right, for the tunes) on the bottom of the unit. No more headphone adapters!!

A flip phone could solve every problem...more screen real estate yet smaller size. Don't see why they can't do it. I'd buy one in a minute.

I think the moto mpx220 size is perfect. If they can stuff a 320X240 touch screen in there. It will be perfect. A real SD card of couse. Non of these minSD card.

Move the ear piece to the back. That way you don't press the screen against your face when talking.

I would not like to give up the hardware buttons for the extra screen space.

When I migrated from the T3 to the Treo 650 I thought that I would miss the Grafitti and the extra screen space, especially when reading eBooks. But I don't.

The convenience of being to move almost everywhere in the software without using a stylus is great. I am slowly training myself not to pull out the stylus ever, except when using 3rd party apps that have not yet fully integrated the 5-way button (eg AvantGo, WorldMate)

The flip out keyboard sounds good. But it'd be difficult to make it stable enough to type while walking.

V nice job, but you have to keep the hard buttons. Also while we are at it, you can use the Screen as a speaker. I remember some Asian phone company released a flip phone that used it's screen as a speaker. that's save you some space on the phone!

How about a MiniSD slot along with the SDIO? eh?

Please, please, please keep the hardware buttons. <P>

Previously I had a kyocera palm-phone (flip). I liked it but it broke. Then I had the samsung i300 - which had very few buttons and most of the interface was on the screen - I hated it - there's no tactile feel when driving, for example. Now I have the treo 650. I love it! I think it's the perfect combination of phone/pda. The hardware buttons make it much nicer to use than having everthing on a touch screen. <P>

That said, I think the space above the screen is wasted, it could be narrowed up a bit. The space between the button on the silver panel and the keyboard buttons could be tightened up a bit. So by making the phone slightly taller and using the space more efficiently we could end up with a 320 x 480 screen. In which case it would be great to be able to turn it sideways while watching movies.

Actually the next version is gonna be a Treo 670. How do I know? This might sound cazy but some lady was trying to sell these to me a couple a weeks back. Figured they were hot so I didn't want to buy them. But she did let me check them out. From what I could tell it was functional... sorta. I couldn't get the phone to work... Either the ear piece was broken or I was just plain dumb =) So I tried connecting it to my bluetooth and see if I could make a call. It didn't bond. Anyways I check the OS and guess what... It was a Pocket PC one. Wasn't really familiar with it but I was able to see that it only had 32MB of memory too... funny huh? This really must be some pre-pre-pre production model because no one in their right minds would be using 32MB of memory for a pocket Pc. Of course since I wasn't familiar with it and it might had been somewhere else but I didn't see it. It was actually really slugish. I tried to hard reset it but the normal hold the power button and push the reset button didn't work. The one you see in the pic on with the screen on seem to be a GSM model because it had sim slot.

She also had an acutal verizon treo 650. It acutally did call out too but after I hard reset it didn't work so good. Meaning after the hard reset it wouldn't hold on to a call longer than 15 sec before disconnecting. Looked just like the sprint version but actually had verizon software. Thats all I could remember...

Palm are you listening to this thread? I love the bigger screen idea. I like the slider idea, but from a different angle. Here is what I posted on another thread a while back of what I personally count as the perfect Treo:

Here would be my perfect phone :

Treo form factor (without the antenna).
But the keyboard would slide down for a PPC-660x size screen when needed and the OS would recognize what screen mode (or actually the screen would slide up to keep the weight at the bottom for easy balance for typing). That way those who like the small form factor have it and never have to slide it to a larger size for more screen real estate, while those who need the extra screen have it. All while have an a keyboard always exposed.
Portrait & Landscape
OS: Just like a desktop....A dual boot to either Palm Colbalt & PPC 2005 as I have programs I love on both OS's
With the dual boot, there would be a common database format compatible with both OS's so common info, i.e....contacts, emails, tasks, etc...can be accessed and edited no matter OS you have loaded.
Dual radios...one for data and one for voice so both can used at same time, at least until EVDV becomes available.
True VGA screen resolution
At least a 1.3 mp camera (saw the first 5 mp cell phone camera the other day in a magazine).
Complete office software solution
Full Blackberry support and compatible (which is what the latest version of the 660x is going to have when released soon in EU).
Voice Command included.
Non crippled Bluetooth
Built in Wifi
CDMA (aka available through Sprint)
EVDO
No atenna
GPS. Just like the folding the GPS antenna, but removable with a port in back of phone where a removable GPS antenna can be snapped on and off as needed.
At least, bare minimum, 128 mb of memory, with how cheap memory is now there would also be a 1 gb internal mem option. I figure a dual boot OS option would take around 100 meg of internal memory so high mem is a must.
Graphic chip accelator that will be released for PDAs this next year.
At least a 600mhz processor.
two sd slots for memory and accessory.
No thicker than the 650
And of course, since we are dreaming....no bugs with the first release.
I would be happy then.... :D

FOLLOW UP NOTES: As for graphics accelator...nVidia has announced their new GoForce 4500 3D that will be released soon. This will provide arcade quality graphics and performance to PPCs. You can see it at http://www.nvidia.com/page/goforce_3d_4500.html . You can also see some screenshots at http://www.nvidia.com/page/pg_20040916183808.html . Here is one of favorites: http://www.nvidia.com/docs/CP/10085...ndheld_Demo.jpg (http://www.nvidia.com/docs/CP/10085/Dawn_Handheld_Demo.jpg)

I think that my dream phone is VERY reasonable today...or at least as soon as the GoForce is released. Whoever wakes up and smells the market demand by making it, could become the new leader in the industry.....as long they do not shoot themselves in the foot with never ending bugs.

I don't like most of the screwing around you all are doing with my beloved phone.

Getting rid of the buttons would make me jump ship. Those on-screen buttons are a disaster. They are far too small to use without the stylus and I can't imagine having to constantly pull the stylus out. Not to mention they are so small they would be absolutely impossible to use -- stylus or not -- while driving.

Lots of other things they can spend their time fixing instead of making the phone infinitely LESS usable.

Yeah, why doesn't Palm build one just like that? :-)

I really miss the 270/300's big keyboard and flipcover! If only they had used a better-quality speaker wire through the hinge in the first place, the wireless carriers wouldn't have forced them to change the design when they upgraded the electronics... :-(

The flip design seems like it would be a pain. I know some of the older treo were flip design. Can someone tell me what were the draw backs of that form?

The flip design seems like it would be a pain. I know some of the older treo were flip design. Can someone tell me what were the draw backs of that form?

While the flip design does provide for security from unintended interface action, phone calls and physical damage is also adds thickness and weight two things the treo 600/650 pushes the envelope on.

I'd love to see a Tungsten E2 or T5 with phone capacity, no keyboard required here just good usable interface with a light replaceable flip cover. A slide on thumbboard or BT keyboard could be a nice accessory.

As long as you don't have big moving parts. I hate flip phones and slider PDAs.

There appears to be a lot of wasted space above (and some below) the display. They should be able to stretch it to a 4:3 aspect ratio.

Now, to get WIFI, bigger memory expansion, and a 3 MP camera...
