Obviously if your info is genuine you have to be careful not to get your source in touble
but....
If your source is so reliable what else do you need to know.
Also, please provide more details about the device if you have them.
I have seen enough news break quietly in these forums that I know anything is possible. However a few more details will go a lonng way toward giving your story and your source believability :)

NOO!!! I don't want to believe it, even though it's prolly better for consumers!! I hate MS with a passion, but PalmSource had it coming to 'em.

why would they name it the 730 when samsungs i730 just came out? Just seems to me they are setting themselves up for criticism. But ill have to see some more solid info without a source listed and barely any info, the 650 had rumors and pics out 6 months before its release, i cant see this new one being only a quarter away with no one knowing info about it.

Treo 730....Samsung i730....i730 is a Windows Mobile device....sounds like a case of getting the products confused.
I find it hard to believe that the next Treo will be the "730".
"700" maybe, "730", probably not.
Windows Mobile, aka, Magneto? Hopefully.

I think that the "out" piece will mostly relate to rumors and early pictures, but I do think it is quite feasible that the rumors around a Magneto based Treo will go rampant next quarter. By that time it is more than a year ago that the rumors for the 650 (610 back then) started. I'll be following it closely...if Microsoft has been able to significantly improve the phone-PDA integration, as well as the ease-of-use of the phone app, then I will want to give it a try. I just got my VZW T650 on a new contract a month ago...sooooo...yup...about 23 months from now I'm sure VZW will be just about to release the next Treo :D

I would say a hoax, How can a Palm have MS? It would not be a Palm then. I'd save your rumor mills for better subjects.
Rumor has it there will be more rumors like this....

there have been many pics of a supposed 650 floating around with windows. i love the palm os, but it seems palm even though it is more popular will go the way of apple and ms will take over the market. look at all of the new pda phones coming out, majority are windows based

The SECOND LG acquired the rights to Palm OS we knew. Why haven't we heard a peep about PalmOne (Palm.............whatever) becoming a licensee (spelling?) to the Windows platform; be it the PDA platform or the Mobile Platform?

Huh? I think you are confusing PalmSource with palmOne. But in fact, neither party is married to the Palm OS. PalmSource is openly flirting with Linux, and palmOne has indicated that a Windows Mobile OS is certainly a possibililty for a palmOne handheld.

All of the models you refer too were created by Handspring not Palmone. Maybe Palm doesn't like the number 3.

This is completely out of question. I have very reliable source. Treo is not coming out till 2006 (write it down someone, sorry but that is what it is). And also it is Palm based. (not sure which vesion). Also there is nothing changed as per form factor or OS, only improvement to 650. So just stop speculating wrong information. And it is definately not 730.

Didn't Palm recently announce that they have halted all production of new units until the Linux-based OS is finished? And didn't they just say that it will be finished sometime early next year?
If that is the case, we'll see the next Treo with the Linux-based Palm OS early next year.

that was Palm SOURCE -- the struggling POS company. They made that announcement.
The debate really is what that implies for future Treos.

Palm(one) did hint towards a PPC version of the treo in the past so it isn't impossible..
However I'd say a 730 on PPC is very improbable..

palm is in the business of selling devices, how would it hurt them to sell devices to users who dont want a palm but want a MS device.
would it hurt palmsource? only if they whine and dont come through with their promises for their OS.

Microsoft gave up its entire sports games lineup in order to get EA to develop all of its games on Xbox and XBL. If MS really want to kill PalmOS that bad, they should bite the bullet and accomadate PalmOne.
It's not like Samsung has another OS to turn to anyway. :D
(Just to clarify, no I don't want a WM05 Treo. But I can see this benefits MS more than it benefits PalmOne.)

Because MS doesn't need to buy time from Wall Street by showing people still care about their OS. Palmsource, OTOH.

Maybe I am wrong but didn't Palm and PalmSource divorce? Seems if the Palm OS were important to Palm then the two would not have gone their seperate ways with only a guarantee of buying a certain amount of PalmSource product over a specific period of time. Seems this opens Palm up to negotiate with whatever OS it deems is good for its business and having more then one OS for their phones may allow them to lock up the smartphone market and sell more of the Palm design (ie: Treo form factor). Seems pretty simple to me that if they want to be a hardware company and not an OS that they would go after all angles. Maybe this is the reason for the parting of the ways with they and PalmSource...And doesn't Palm have new leadership who may want to shake things up a bit?
KRamsauer

They divorced because the two companies apart are (presumably) worth more than the two companies put together. It really has nothing to do with being beneficial to either company.

I want a Windows Treo. After owning a Palm V, then a IPAQ 2200, and now a Treo....I overwhelmingly love the Windows PPC much better.
Don't get me wrong, I love the Treo....but I would prefer a Windows version. Just my 2 cents....I'm sure everyone has their own preference. Some like skinny woman...some like 'em fat....it's your own choice!! :p

Oh boy... Talk about getting the story mixed up..
First of all there are 2 companies here. PalmSource is the one that announced it is putting all its resources on porting linux kernal on next ver of palmos. Palm is the company that makes the Treo and lisences the OS from PalmSource. There has been absolutely NO info regarding what OS they will use on the next gen Treo. It could be yet another iteration of so called "frankengarnet" or Coblat or whatever. My guess would probably be Frankengarnet at this point since it doesn't appear Palm has any desire to use cobalt now or ever unfortunately...

a treo, ppc, and a touch bigger screen!
I was at my local Sprint store yesterday, tech guy told me the next Treo is a 700 running windows. They had not been given a time frame yet, but said it would probably be after November.
